Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Joshua Sohn (pronounced sone). I am a composer based in Salt Lake City with a degree in Music Education at the University of Utah. During my time as a conductor in front of school orchestras and bands, I learned to appreciate the writing of various composers. I also studied composing on my free-time and cultivated it into a passion. In 2014, I started my own studio, Sohn Compositions. As of now, I have written and arranged music for films, games, artists, & performance ensembles. It has been a blast!
Why my love for composing? Well, let me paint you a picture: Imagine a young, introverted kid who moved 2000 miles away from home to a strange, new city. The only thing that helped to cope with this change was music. It was the music from "Final Fantasy" and "Cowboy Bebop" that not only captured my love for music, but ultimately guided me on the course to writing my own. I was in awe of how much influence music could have over the picture and how much emotion it could draw.
I believe music has the power to heal as well as give infinite energy to our mind, body and soul. Growing up with beautiful, creative music is what inspired me, and in turn, I feel my work can provide that same inspiration to others.
“Film is made up of a series of moving parts. It can be argued that without solid picture, acting and story, you can't hope to have a compelling film… but without a solid score, your film can never truly move people. Josh from Sohn Compositions helped to elevate my film from good to amazing! I can honestly say that without his exemplary musical contributions, my film could only reach a small portion of its full potential. He is the only person I trust to score my work, and truly bring my stories to life.”
